AECOM announces Science Based Targets
In a recent Blog prepared with Perfect Circle, we highlight AECOM's leadership role in the Built Environment sector, being the first...
Robert is the sustainable development lead for AECOM's Environment business. He works with AECOM's clients to develop strategies, business cases, action plans and projects that embed more sustainable ways of working into everyday business decisions, leading to better outcomes for our people and communities and our natural environment.
In achieving this, Robert is a keen advocate of bringing natural capital and the circular economy into business norms as these concepts are driving innovation and the new business models that will allow us to flourish in this fast changing world. Robert also takes a leading role in developing and rolling out AECOM's response to the #ClimateEmergency and #BiodiversityCrisis.Robert leads circular economy progress through two UK-based infrastructure best practice forums, which he established following several years of formative work on the pioneering National Industrial Symbiosis Programme. The Major Infrastructure - Resource Optimisation Group (or MI-ROG) includes most of the significant infrastructure owner / operators involved in capital delivery projects that will change how we move around or secure our energy and water supplies in the UK. MI-ROG has been going since 2013 and grows each year, tackling the nitty gritty of how to really deliver on the circular economy promise when it comes to big infrastructure. Robert set up the Scottish Infrastructure Circular Economy Forum (SICEF) in 2017. SICEF has similar aims and objectives to MI-ROG, but responds to the more established circular economy context in Scotland.
On the natural capital and environmental net gain front, Robert chairs the Natural Capital Task Force of the Environmental Industries Commission. This is a task and finish group with a remit to accelerate the take-up of natural capital approaches across UK industry, in line with the Defra 25 Year Environment Plan and is shortly to publish its first white paper on implementing environmental net gain.
Robert was Highly Commended at the inaugural IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards in September 2019 for his role as a sustainability leader at AECOM.
